SDAT and PREVENT

Stopping Domestic Abuse Together

In conjunction with Derbyshire Police and Derby City Council, Noel-Baker Academy is involved in an initiative called Stopping Domestic Abuse Together (SDAT).

The purpose of SDAT is to safeguard and support young people who have been involved in, heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident.

Following such an incident, young people will often arrive at school distressed, upset, worried and unprepared. SDAT aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called key adults) are made aware early enough to support young people in a way that means they feel safe and included.

At Noel-Baker Academy our key adults are Rebecca Flude and Diana Fox.

This is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to support and help children and families within our school community when they need it the most.

You can find our more by visiting the Derbyshire police website or by contacting our safeguarding team on [email protected]

We also ensure all of our staff are trained in, and understand the Government's PREVENT strategy.

Prevent is a part of the Government’s national counter-terrorism strategy, which aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, before they are drawn into criminality.

It is designed to tackle all forms of terrorism regardless of ideology or cause: online extremism and radicalisation can impact all our neighbourhoods and communities.

Prevent is part of the national counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST. Prevent aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism and extremism. This includes:

  • Challenging ideology – All terrorist groups have an ideology and frequently use the internet to air their views
  • Supporting vulnerable people – Radicalisation is a process, not one event and during that process it is possible to intervene and safeguard the vulnerable.
  • Working with key sectors – A wide range of agencies are working to help deliver Prevent, including education, health, faith, criminal justice and charities.

Please refer to the Home Office website for additional information on the Prevent Duty.
